a generator is a generator. it doesnt matter if you have an ox pulling the sucker around. you just need gears to change the direction of your mechanical energy. maybe your question is how do you make a generator?

Are you wanting to make a windmill that makes power?
If so then you can make “wind power generators” by using the instructions at
The generator is just a part of the whole thing. You can pickup generator from many different places.
Hope this helps.

Yup, I think he is in fact looking for a win mill type generator. You can buy these but they’re really spending. I built my own with schematics and detailed instructions I found online at and it was a snap, even for a non-mechanical person such as myself. I recommend you take a look there first.

Yes I have done this, it is so simple to do, the plans that I used where very easy to read and the materials were easy to come by.

Earth4Energy is one solution that looks promising. There are a couple of other products out there as well. I found one called Poor Man’s Guide To Wind Power And Battery Systems and blogged about it last month on my Residential Wind Turbine Blog (http://residentialwindturbine.blogspot.com). This guy provides instructions on how to make a 1,000 watt wind turbine for less than $150.00 and a 3,000 watt wind turbine for about $220.00. The smaller one is probably what you’re looking for.
