    in this area, natural gas and electric rates are very comparable. propane or butane may be somewhat less expensive, but you will have the cost of the fixtures etc….

    i think i would look at a natural gas high efficiency unit.

    Yes they have increased,However gas appliances last longer than electric(except for gas airconditioners) by a wide margine(when I had electric water heater they only lasted 5 years max).And they are simple to fix(mostly cleaning the pilot hole).

Many electricity companies across the nation are rural electric cooperatives that operate as non-profits so they rarely raise rates.
