In Rochester, NY The cost of oil is about $4.25 per gallon. That is about as specific as one can get. The rest depends on the efficiency of the unit, how well the burner is set, number of hrs. per day unit runs, etc… There are lots of variables.

If you have gas available, consider your options. It may be cheaper in the long run.

Well, first off - you don’t get a monthly bill.

OK, well, second off, which should have been first, I think the running price around her right now is about $3.70 per gallon.

Where we live, you can do one of two things. You can just watch the gauge on the tank, and when it gets low, like 1/4 full, you call the oil company and they come out in the next couple of days and fill it up. They leave you a bill, and you come home, and pass out after viewing it. Then you have to add an emergency room visit and an ambulance ride to your bill.

Or, you are on a keep-fill program. They come around every so often when they have calculated that you should be around 1/4 tank, and then they leave you a bill, you come home, find it, have a heart attack, and add the ambulance ride and open heart surgery to your bill.

There are a couple of places around here where you can pay monthly, thoughout the year, but we’re not interested in doing business with those companies, so we don’t.

We supplement our heat with a wood stove, and try to use that as much as possible, because fuel oil is ridiculous.
