I have an old receipt from 1975 where my father paid 39.9 cents for #2 fuel oil for his home heating plant. I believe it was a York, oil-fired furnace. This was after the oil embargo. Before 1973, I think the price was around 25 cents.

I remember in the 70’s it was about .48 and right now it’s $3.15 per gallon.

thinking of cost 50’s minimum wage about .85 cents an hour
60’s minimum wage about 1.00 and hour
70’s minimum wage about 5.00 and hour
hmmm, if gasoline costs 22 cents a gallon in 1956 that was 25% of your hourly wage.
today gas is about 3.00 a gallon wages are about average 21.00 hourly, about 14% of your hourly wage
